DIY Apple Cider Vinegar Facial Toner

This super duper simple and cheap potion can do wonders for your skin! It’s one of the things I use for my water-only face washing routine and it helps my jawline acne, which has become one of the most frustrating forms of acne I’ve ever come across.

Seriously, the front of my face is fine, but when you look closely at my jawline, particularly the right side, all you’ll see are very painful zits.

This DIY ACV toner can help improve your overall complexion by balancing and restoring your skin’s natural pH. It certainly did mine!

So here’s the scientific stuff I was able to dig up: our skin is naturally acidic but when our levels are in balance, our skin will be between oily and dry.

Water-Only Face Washing (Update 1)

Hey all again!

So I just spent a fabulous weekend in Montreal. Actually jk, Montreal was fabulous. I wasn’t.

It wasn’t hot but I realized (again!) that if I’m going to be packing only skirts and dresses for the weekend, I should invest in some bike shorts because my thighs were on chafing mode all weekend and it’s not graceful walking with your legs spread apart in a pretty dress.

AND pack comfy shoes. I knew I should’ve packed comfy shoes, but the other side of me was all, “NOOOOO…your flats are good enough bler bler bler.” It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if my thighs weren’t chafing but still. 😛

Anyways, main point of this update! As you all know by now, I only wash my face with water, use a diluted ACV toner, and put minimal moisturizer on the driest points of my face (nose, sometimes forehead…). So it’s still a great routine BUT I learned something very important during this trip that is really common sense, but wasn’t so common for me as I was on vacation mode and lazy.

Don’t be lazy like me…

You MUST MUST wash off every trace of makeup. I found a DIY recipe for makeup remover wipes for those lazy days and will be trying that soon, but URGHH. I’m paying for it now. After slumping into my hotel bed without even washing my face, I woke up with zits on my face and it is not pretty!

I’m still recuperating but it’s not as bad. There’s no scarring and no scary pus oozing out of my pores, but still. Wash your makeup off. Don’t be a lazy sloth like me.

All my acne is concentrated on my jawline, so if you were to look at me straight on, it doesn’t seem so bad, but I know they’re there…they’re always watching. O.O

Anyways, that’s it! Nothing too dramatic but just thought I’d share. When I was still washing my face with soap, I could sort of get away with not washing my face at night, but I know leaving makeup on for a long time regardless of your face washing routine is bad.

Oh and I’ll be posting about my Montreal trip soon! I’m doing my best to get back into work mode but I haven’t had a worry-free vacation in SO long, I forget how much non-stop schooling and work burned me out. 😦

Hey all again! For those of who are just stumbling upon this post, this is Part II of the Water-Only Series! Riding on from Part 1: Water Only Face Washing, I started a new experiment with just washing my body only water.

Sounds gross, I know. You’re probably thinking I smell and well…just stink if I only shower with water. Well, let me tell ya. It sorta kinda works and sorta doesn’t. One thing I learned from this experiment is that water-only body washing works with a really healthy lifestyle!

I found that consuming red meats tends to make me a little stinkier. I can’t give up red meat, not ever. So while water-only body washing is regrettably a no-no for me, it might work better for those who aren’t big meat eaters!

Why Am I Doing This Again?

My skin’s super sensitive. I’ve tried about every commercial product that claims it’s good for sensitive skin and while it works for a while, I just go back to being all itchy, red and not pretty. At first I thought it was just my lack of moisturizing but no amount of moisturizer could save me from the itchiness that prevails.

So I’ve scoured the internet for solutions and some people have found relief in only washing themselves with water! So I figure, let’s go! I’d rather risk being stinky than itchy all over.

Why you should go water-only face washing

I found that this method worked for me because of my super sensitive skin. I’ve read success stories with all different types of skin: normal, oily, combination, but apart from reducing the frequency of flare ups and blemishes, the main reason I went for this face washing method was simple: I’m lazy and want to do my part on living the healthiest life possible.

This includes not putting chemicals on my face that are sure to flare up my skin and spending the least amount of effort in my beauty routine.

DIY Multi-Purpose Body Balm

DIY Body Balm

One fine summer day, I decided to go crazy and ordered 10 lbs. of beeswax. This was probably half a year ago, and I’ve only used up maybe half a pound for my lotion bars experiment.

Now that graduation has provided me with more free time, I’ve decided to make use of the leftover beeswax and make my own beauty balm salve. This was inspired by Michelle Phan’s Travel Tips Video, but unlike her, I can’t afford many beauty products and am transitioning into a more natural beauty products lifestyle, so even if I was able to afford the product she used in her video, those questionable ingredients will prevent me from purchasing.
